DIY Lavender Infused Vinegar for Cleaning

Lavender Vinegar Cleaning Recipe Dilutions
Make a surface based cleaner in a spray bottle with 1 part lavender infused vinegar and 3 parts lavender hydrosol or distilled water:
- Spray it on mirrors or windows and wipe clean with microfiber cloth
- Clean countertops and appliances
- Spray on shower doors after your shower to prevent hard water stains
As a Natural Fabric Softener: Add 1-2 ounces directly to your laundry rinse water. Do not add to your fabric softener dispenser, your rinse water will naturally dilute the acid. Adding vinegar to your laundry rinse water will:
- Soften your fabrics
- Deodorize
- Brighten your whites and colors
- Loosen up soap and grease grime on fabrics
- BONUS: it will clean your washing machine!
Floor Cleaner: Mix 1/2 cup of vinegar with 1 gallon hot water:
Mop floors as usual for a natural clean and shine
Toilet Cleaner: Add 1/4 cup of vinegar in toilet before bed.
Brush in the morning before using your toilet!

Note about diluting with Lavender Hydrosol rather than Lavender Essential Oil
Many popular blog posts tell you to add lavender essential oil if you would like to scent the vinegar stronger. Some blog posts go as far as to tell you that a lavender vinegar infusion is only essential oil and vinegar. The reason why you do not want to add essential oil is because vinegar is water based. Oil and water do not mix. Hydrosol is the co-product in the essential oil making process and is water. Water and water will mix! Essential oil is extremely expensive and will be wasted (because it will not mix properly, notice how you are instructed to “shake” before use when you are given an essential oil and water recipe.) Infusing your vinegar with lavender buds, will achieve the same, if not superior, outcome as adding your expensive essential oil. The vinegar “extracts” the oils from the buds during the infusion (or steep) AND buds are exponentially less expensive than essential oils. Save your precious essential oils for oil based concoctions.

- Wood
- Stone
- Granite
Lavender Infused Vinegar Recipe

Infuse your vinegar with lavender to replace the strong vinegar smell with a softer lavender scent. Refer to the reference guide on this blog post to dilute for specific cleaning needs!

2. Add lavender buds to vinegar: 1 cup per gallon (128 ounces,) 1/2 cup per 1/2 gallon (64 ounces, 1/4 cup per quart (32 ounces)**
3. Steep in a cool dry place for 2-4 weeks. Solution will turn a pink/purple color. Shake daily.
4. Strain with cheesecloth or coffee filter
5. Rinse out lavender buds and clean old container
6. Replace vinegar in container after cleaned and dried
7. Top off container with lavender hydrosol for extra lavender scent
